My child’s father takes methadone everyday prescribed at a methadone clinic. I don’t know much about it and he’s been on it for more than 7 years. How does this effect you? Is it getting him high? I need some info on this. He says its just his medication that he needs but I don’t believe him

It’s a narcotic painkiller, and while maybe not as euphoric as many other opiates it is just as addictive.
Methadone clinics have been in existence for many years, and the idea is to replace the opiates someone is addicted to (oxycodone, morphine, heroin, etc) with Methadone, and then eventually wean off of the Methadone completely. Problem is, the clinic makes its living allowing the addiction to perpetuate. It’s a license for them to sell mild-morphine to morphine addicts.
If he is determined to help himself with methadone maintenance, he should be comfortable with discussing it and not get defensive. That said, it is a touchy subject, and he may become defensive if you question his intentions within the program. 7 years? He is just using to get high is my opinion.
