Question by Diamond: What are the usual directions on how to take methadone for pain not addiction?
I was wondering about something. I can’t get a straight answer anywhere. How much do Dr.s usually prescribe? How often are you supposed to take it? How fast does it kick in? How long does it last?
Note: I did not say I am taking this medication. This is a site for questions and answers, so I am asking a question and would like answers only, not opinions or criticism. Thank you!

They will normally start you off at 40mg. unless you have already built up a tolerance to opiates,and dose you up from there. In my opinoin methadone is a very bad choice of pain medication,,, the withdrawls from it are worse than heroin. There are far better pain medications. Even oxycotin is less addive than methadone. Even when you dose down and get off it you will suffer with sleeping for a long time. Here’s a link you should check out.

A lot of people swear by it,,it just never did anything worth the hassle of taking it. Then when you try to lower your dose it has to be very slow or you will get dope sick.
I was addicted to the crap and went both ways,,withdrawls and finally dosing down. I’d rather die than go through the withdrawls again. Good luck
