I believe any MD can prescribe methadone 5mg or 10mg for pain, although many WON’T, but a large number of pharmacies are not licensed to carry methadone or fill it. In MO, where I live, neither pharmacy in my small town can dispense methadone, and that includes Wal-mart, and I have taken painkillers for cancer for several years and only a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist has ever even mentioned prescribing it to me, although many other doctors have offered/prescribed me morphine, oxycodone, and every other pain medicine (narcotic and non-narcotic) on the market.
