Mom Tried Killing Herself, What Should I Do?
Question by Christina: Mom tried killing herself, what should I do?
This will be kinda long so thanks in advance for reading.
Okay soo my family has alot of issues, no joke. My dad was an alcoholic while growing up. He became sober for a while but then turned too pills, when he did my mom did too. They were both addicted too pain killers (oxycotin & vicodins & perkisets) for about shit idk maybe 8 years or even longer. Pretty much since I remember when I was about 11 or so (I’m now 21). Well they spent atleast $ 300 a week alone on there addiction, if not more. Well my mom decided she wanted too stop about 6 years ago so she started going to methadone clinics, well she then became addicted to methadone as did my dad because she would share with him. Well two years ago my mom started having an affair with some guy, she totally desserted our family. My dad started drinking again, they lost the house Mom went a-wall. Dad went to rehab, lil bro & sis got sent to a out of state relative. Well my dad is getting better now he has been in a Christian based sober house for almost a year. He has plans on starting up the family business and living a clean life “God help us I pray he can stick through this”. Well my mom ended up moving to Florida last year, and now is living with her new boyfriend. She is still on the methadone and some other pills. She got into trouble with the law a couple times but my Aunt paid for an attorney to help her. She was suppose to go to jail last month for only 14 days. That was her complete sentance. Well turns out she never went and last night she tried killing herself because she has a warrant out for her arrest and she is scared of going to jail because of withdrwals from the methadone and for whatever else reason. Now she is facing even bigger charges for not going. So my question is this-
Should I be there for her? I mean I love my mom with all my heart, even out of all the bull ish she had put me and the family through. But it seems like she will never learn her lesson. She says she wants to get better and come back home but Idk if she will. I have been so messed up over everything, it was all very tramatizing for me and my siblings. I just don’t know If I can take the heartache anymore. Would you forgive and be there for your mom?
She is just a complete stranger now. She acts like a teenager. I know its because she had kids at a tyoung age and she feel slike she missed out on alot but she completely abanonded my 14 year old brother and 17 year old sister. What should I do?
Sorry lol
She is in a hospital in Florida now. Her boyfriend found her and called an ambulance. Also this isnt the first time in my family where someone tried killing their selves. Both my father & lil sister tried as well 🙁

My mom tried to kill herself when I was 18 – I am now 31. Your situation is different than mine, but what I do know is that you need to keep yourself safe. We love our moms, no matter what we do, we love them and we care about them because they are our moms. But as much as it may not seem like it to her – it is not showing your mom love to enable her to continue hurting herself, you and your siblings. I think it would be good to let your mom know you love her, send her notes and encouragement, but also make a stand for yourself and do what you need to do so that she does not hurt your further. Does that make sense?
