Methadone Withdrawal?
Question by : Methadone Withdrawal?
I have cystic fibrosis and have been on methadone for 4 years to manage my pain. I decided to wean myself off the medicine since the doctor doesn’t want me to get off of it, so she wont help. I tapered from 3 – 10mg doses a day to 2 – 10mg, 1-10mg, 5mg, and now 2.5 mg over the last 3 weeks. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help ease the withdrawal symptoms. I am not having any of the mental cravings I hear others speak of, but the physical withdrawals are torture. Does anyone know about how long this will last? I broke down and went to the ER bc my dr is out of town and they wrote me a script for 10 1mg ativan. I’ve never taken that before. Will it help with the jitters I am feeling. I just feel like I’m going to crawl out of my skin. Polite responses only please, I am not a drug addict, I am a patient with severe chronic pain. Thanks for your help. I heard benadryl will help, is there any truth to that?

Ya know, it might be nice to find out how well your body could do at producing its own supply of morphine.
Your doctor might be agreeable to it if she can learn what you are wanting to do. And the neat thing is that it is a narcotics rehab drug, but only a tiny portion.
Another element of this is that in order to create the endorphins, your body brings up the levels of its neurotransmitters, which in themselves are involved with mediating chronic pain.
Was that polite enough?
