Methadone Treatment for My Son

Question by Justin A: methadone treatment for my son
My son at this time is in a detox for the next 72 hours for coming off heroin and oxycontin, He’s been on suboxen before and it didn’t work. The nurse at the center gave me the name of a Methadone clinic very close to our home, being the Detox center is 50 miles away, today I called the nurse at the Methadone clinc and she said that there would have to be an opiate present in his system to get in…now this leaves me in a stumper….what should I do? When he comes out of this clinic he’ll be clean, but it won’t be for long, the urge is just to much for him…so what should I do let him use and then take him to the clinic or what?

do not give your son methadone as is very addictive … there is a drug they can give him to stop the heroin working it dose nothing if taken so is a big wast of money but first your son must want to get off drugs its no use you doing it for him sorry to say my first husband was a heroin addict and was never ever happy off …. unfortunately he died on the 1-1-01 0f a heart attack aged 38 i really do feel for you Hun… we had 5 children together my youngest was only 3 the last time he meat him so has no memory of his dad my others still miss him ..if only he new wot a mess he made perhaps he would of changed but its up to them …… methadone only makes things worse as they don’t have to pay for it…we were together for 15 1/2 years some happy but most just hectick he was on methadone for 12 years never got off it

You probably should have got him in the Methadone clinic before sending him to the detox. He never would have needed to go to the detox and suffer if he had started at thje Methadone clinic. I know that doesn’t help now but I thought you should know. I went through several detoxes and even a seizure before I found Methadone and it gave me my life back. I couldn’t believe I had suffered through all those withdrawals when I didn’t have to.The people at the clinic told me the first 2 weeks they realize you will be increasing your dose and finding what works for you during which time you will be uncomfortable (they realize this is when most people relapse and figure they failed) so they told me I was allowed to test positive for low to moderate amounts of Vicodin, hydrocodone, or Oxycontin during that point and it would not count against me. I did take a few Vicodin the first week with my Methadone but after the first week it was as if my drug use had been a dream. I had used for ten years and it was a miracle. My parents have their daughter back and my son has a mother. Unfortunately there are many who believe the media and the stigma like the previous poster but you can see for yourself when your sons life turns around. I have decided to “pay it forward” so to speak after my experience by educating others about this wonderful medication and the way it works. I have a video shown in many clinics which you can view at my website… http://www.findingnormal.webs.com
BTW..I know I got carried away and didn’t answer your question..LOL He will need opiates in his system when he goes. Methadone can only be taken safely by those who are tolerant of opiates. So, it would be dangerous to give it to someone without opiates in their system. However, don’t let him use this as an excuse to shoot Heroin. He will still be sick so he might try that. I would give him an Oxycontin or Vicodin the night before he goes to the clinic. He won’t get a very big dose the first day and it is increased gradually. BTW, Suboxone has been shown to be much less effective in Heroin users and long term or “hard core” addictions. So don’t feel like this won’t work either. Methadone is one of the safest drugs out there and has been used for over 40yrs. to treat opiate addiction. The stories you hear about are usually from pain management centers are because of the recent use of Methadone in pain clinics to treat pain. Good Luck and e-mail me if their anything I can do.
