I take 45 mg. of Methadone total daily for stenosis in my back and DDD. I have been taking it for about 4 months now but want to stop taking it. I recently read in a newspaper that Methadone increases your risk for cardiac arrest. I have a heart defect so this scares me. My question is…..
If I just stop taking it suddenly will I have any problems? Has anyone stopped taking Methadone suddenly and if so what side effects did it have? Is it safe?

You should not stop suddenly. If you do you will go through “withdrawal” which is unpleasant. Your symptoms withdrawal symptoms could include the following:
-Depression
-Anxiety
-Craving
-Excessive sweating
-Shaking
-All over generalized pain
-Extreme thirst
You should taper slowly off methadone over a few weeks. That means gradually take less and less every day.

never stop taking any drug of this magnatude first you will get dope sick ie withdraw.also i would talk to your dr. about getting on a different type of pain medication ,Methadone is just a legal form of herion and just as hard to kick
