Question by thesoapscandal: im on 90 mgs of methadone ive been on it for a little less than two months for opiat addiction?
will it be hard to withdrawl from it and how many mgs should i drop a week i want to do it as fast as possible.

Two months is not nearly long enough. You need to wean yourself off slowly, probably over a period of years. Opiate addiction is one of the hardest things to kick, and if you simply stop the methadone you’re going to get awful withdrawal symptoms and have a high risk of relapse.

Please don’t consider doing anything without the help of the methadone clinic.

90 mls of methadone suggests to me that your opiate addiction was bad. ie you must have been taking at least 0.5 gm -1.0 gm a day, otherwise you have been overmedicated. Do you still use on top of your script, do you, did you inject. Do you use any other drugs. why do you want to quit the methadone? Methadone does block most opiate receptors, so as well as preventing opiate withdrawl symptoms, it also lessens the ‘good’ feelings you may have experienced from heroin use alone. Has this got anything to do with your wish to come off quickly, truly. How long have you been taking smack prior to your script. The whole idea of a meth script is for it to stop your illegal drug use, and of course stop heroin withdrawl symptoms. Also the idea is that if you just stick to the prescribed stuff then you won’t have to deal with other associated illegal drug use problems, eg, lack of money, leading to theft etc, serious health problems like infections from hep a, b, c,, hiv, abcesses, mrsa , dvt, lost body parts. it is also supposed to allow you to stop away from your dealer and user friends, they can cause you a lot of danger. If your intention is to quit the methadone and smack forever, then for gods sake get on with it. Methadone is addictive, very, but less than two months on 90ml a day is relatively speaking nothing, specially time wise. If you are reallly serious try dropping 5ml a fortnight, you will then be clean in 9 months. you shouldn’t really have any physical probs ’til you get to 30ml or so. then physically it might be harder. Do you have access to a rehab or at least asecure tratment unit for the hardest parts. 9 months may seem ages, but how long have you been addicted to opiates for.. Succesful abstinence from drugs is about far far more than physical withdrawls, otherwise nearly all of us would be ex-addicts getting on succedfully with life. Kick drugs in the head before they do the same to you. They have nothing to offer you but pain, misery, poverty, ill health, social ostracism and mental problems. Truly, I know and speak from experience. If you don’t I am 100% sure that your entire life will be a miserable failure. Ask yourself, if you want to go to prison, be a prostitute or dealer, lose any moral sense, rip your friends of lose your family amd ruin your health . If you carry on that is all you have to look forward too. Escape whilst and if you still can. Make being drug free the most important thing in your life. i suggest speaking to someone from Phoenix House or The Ley Community. They will tell you what the real isssues are and what you need to do to be free. Listen and act
