I Just Quit Methadone 100 Mg a Day and Nortriptyline 75 Mg a Day as Well, Want to Know How?

Question by Jonathan: I just quit methadone 100 mg a day and nortriptyline 75 mg a day as well, want to know how?
I quit my methadone 1 week to the day and also 75 mg of nortriptyline to because the methadone was making me sicker after 2 years of being on it for pain control which is absolute bull shit, the stuff is not good for anything but death in my eyes. The only way anyone should be prescribed methadone is for heroin or cocaine withdrawals after a couple of months the doctor should ween you off because the longer you take it the harder it is too come off. The first day of not taking it I felt good and thought it was a miracle that there wasn’t any side effects but let me tell you something for every dose you take it takes 2 weeks to expel it so for me the next day was bad and next day harder and harder until the point I went to the hospital and told them what I had done and the dr. said I was nuts, the worse thing I experienced was the stomach, bowel and chest pain,I thought an alien was trying to rip through my stomach holy shit what pain so now I am on ant seizure medication which is good so for plus ativan for chest pain so it is helping a lot so if anyone wants to quit cold turkey I don’t recommend it at all do it slow even if it takes 3-6 months it’s worth it even though I survived I wouldn’t try it again. so respond if you have any input or need help with methadone or any other narcotics been there and done it all. ttyl:)

Jon that was a pretty brave thing you did going cold turkey, but damn if you didnt take the hard road. The doctor could made you far more comfortable during the acute stages and even after. The danger of the cold turkey route increases with dose and 100mg a day is a pretty high bridge to jump from.
The reason I’m writing may not be something unknown to you, so forgive me if I’m telling old news. Ativan is a member of the benzodiazipne family, like Valium and Klonipin. Benzo’s are not a drug class to be trifled with as cold turkey from that family can easily turn in to dead duck. So when you are feeling well enough to drop the Ativan, do it either with a doctors help or a very long smooth taper. Seizures and convulsions are not uncommon in benzo withdrawal, so take it as slow and easy as you need to take it. Good show and my hats off to you for kicking the methadone. Be well soon.
