I Have Spondylolisthesis and It Is Chronic Back Pain and I Feel Pain Down My Right Leg?

Question by ?????????? ??? ???????????: I have spondylolisthesis and it is chronic back pain and I feel pain down my right leg?
This might have happened when I was born. When I ran cross country in middle school I felt the pain, but ran it out. High school I sprinted and I should have seen somebody. The problem exacerbated when I sat down improperly in piano class. I can feel the pain and my brain telling me where it huts. It really hurts and I can’t stand my doctor not giving me the medication that will solve all my problems. I have tried all the NSAIDS, muscle relaxers, and tramadol and ultracet, but those ARE the WORST and do not do anything. It was like pulling teeth to get Vicodin. Now I take 2-3 Vicodin a day and I am afraid I will have to take more. The problem is that Vicodin has acetaminophen in it and after reading online posts I learned 4000mg is the max for adults. The other problem is that it makes my stomach hurt. My stomach ulcers are healing and take dexilant for that but I don’t think that medication is strong enough either (I have to take two sometimes). I am responsible with my drugs and I do not want to be labeled as a person seeking stronger medication for my back pain. I do believe that the pain medication work but I have such a resilient doctor. I can’t sleep at night because my back pain is killing me. I am going to call her office tomorrow, but I went in today hoping she would support me. FYI she performed an epidermal steroid injection that went horribly wrong. Instead I will consider getting it done at NYU Lagone Medical Center. I want to get a stronger medication that will heal all my problems at least stop the pinched nurve radicular leg pain called sciatica. My left back hurts because I am relying on it more at times. I believe my doctor less concerned about treating my symptoms and my concerns in spite of addiction and drug addict labeling with the drug. What drug do you think I should take Roxicodone, Oxycotin, or Methadone, but I am not too sure what methadone is. I would not mind Oxycodone, so essentially I would love to be prescribed Roxicodone. Please tell me what I should do. What I should say to Dr. Rim.. or should I just go somewhere else. My stomach hurts from the medication and it was already hard enough to get prescribed Vicodin and I have been going to her for a year or so. Please reply if you have something nice to say. Thank you and I will give you five stars if you are chosen as the best answer. I would really appreciate the advice and I do not want anymore problems. Thank you and have a nice day!

while some brief temporary relief might be obtained from an anterolisthesis in certain cases by anterior to posterior pressure on the lower abdomen supine with knees flexed, the nerve interference root must be corrected. see an hio method chiropractor.

Hi, sorry to hear you are in pain & having trouble w/ your doc. I have been a chronic pain patient for over 20 years and I am also a patient advocate, so I have a lot of personal as well as clinical education on these things. The best thing for you to do is to not give up looking for relief other than pain pills! I’m sure many will tell you how evil these meds are; but I will give you the honest truth on all of them! They are not evil and have helped many that had no where left to turn( myself included) and while I am a big supporter and activist for a chronic pain patients right to choose them, I will also tell you that they are not for everyone nor every pain. For those in pain that are wanting to go on long term pain meds, this should only ever be considered as a last resort only! I cannot stress to you enough how important this choice is as pain meds has a very nasty side. 1st there is the addiction/dependant issues along with tolerance. Which means the longer you are on them, the more you will have to have in order to get relief. You will also become a prisioner to these pills making you plan and revolve your whole life around them. Next there is the problem of keeping them safe from others as you cannot trust ANYONE and if they get lost or stolen, 9out of 10 docs will not replace them and then you will be left to go through withdrawl which will cause suffering on a scale that you cannot ever imagine and can kill you! Opioids will also cause a lot of dental problems and will cause your teeth to start cracking and even fall out. The other big thing is that our country has started a war on pain patients and it has made it near impossible to even find a doc willing to perscribe these meds long term and even harder to find a pharmacist to fill them or that will not demand cash payment only so they can price gouge you for outragous amounts! You will also have to deal with EVERYONE treating you like a junkie, and get used to being humiliated and treated like a dog, not to mention any other health problem that you will have to go to another doc for as the moment he sees what you are on, he will pass harsh judgement on you, and a lot of the time will decline to be your doc. If all this were not enough, all these meds have many side effects that can cause all kinds of problems and in many cases, opioids can cause you to have more pain like an all over aching like when you have a bad flu. Be very careful taking meds w/ tylenol as it takes far less than 4000mg per day to cause liver damange and when mixed with certain meds. like oxycontin & methadone make it turn deadly causing full liver failure in hardly no time!( I learned this the hard way!) Oxycontin has had its formula changed to make it harder to abuse and this new oxycontin is horrible as it hardly works at all and is causing all kinds of really bad health problems! When the fda set up a board of docs in order to approve this new formula, 9 out of the 11 docs voted it down because they said that it was dangerous; but our good ol’ fda approved it anyway(show how much they care) and the only ones this new stuff is doing is hurting legitimate patients. Plus addicts found a way to still snort and shoot it in less than a week! As for methadone, NO ONE should ever be put on it unless they will never have to come off of it! Not only is it the most addictive substance known to man, it is also the most dangerous because unlike any other med. it stays in your body for a very long time as it stores in fat cells and bone marrow and that makes it very easy to overdose on it and makes it the hardest thing to stop taking(less than 3% are sucessful of getting off and staying off) The withdrawl from it is the worst and can go on for weeks and in some cases can pop up for months or years! Please understand that I am not trying to scare you or that I am not taking your pain seriously, I just wanted to give you the facts on what I have learned over the years. PLEASE just really think long and hard about what I have told you before you decide and by all means talk to others and educate yourself before you decide especially if you are under 40yrs. One last thing, the pain you are describing sounds very much like a pinched nerve, which opioids will not work well for very long, instead you might want to ask about lyrica & cymbalta as they have a very good sucess with that type of pain. I wish you very good luck and if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
