I Am on Methadone and Am Taking Xanax, How Dangerous Is the Combination?

Question by jessica: I am on Methadone and am taking Xanax, how dangerous is the combination?
I have been on Methadone on and off for years now and have always taken it with Xanax which has been prescribed for years for my severe anxiety. My Medicad representative is trying to tell me I have to get off Xanax to continue getting funding which I find ridiculous! I realize that there is a risk of taking the two together but it is even more dangerous to drink and they can’t test people for alcohol all the time! I know there are MANY people on Methadone who still drink, some even heavily. I take 1 or 2- 1 mgs. of Xanax a day and sometimes even just take a half or none depending on how bad my anxiety is. Have you ever heard of anyoned dying from the combo. and don’t say Anna Nicole because she was abusing massive amounts. I do not have slurred speech or show any warning signs of an overdose if Xanax increases Methadone levels. My clinic also “blind doses” which I hate, I really would like to know my dose.

That combo was what was killing a lot of people in Hazard, KY. I went to three funerals in less than three months. Yeah, it’s a dangerous mix. I don’t know what the fatal dose is I know Jimmy was running from one Methadone maintenance clinic to another state to state and gettting them in pill form and selling it to support his habbit. Hell, he was only 24 when he died had just come back from Florida with his new batch. Watch out. Call the poison hotline and ask them would be the best. Jimmy always told me the Xanax didn’t even make him tired but when his wife found him in the car the next morning between the Xanax and the Methadone he was in for a long sleep (forever)

I’ve heard of people dying. Its very dangerous–both are sedatives and thus depress your immune system, which can result in coma and/or death.
