Are you getting the methadone to treat pain or because of the addiction?

In this area, doctors generally instruct patients to be 72 hours clean from their last dose of opate. That’s 3 whole days. I’ve read that some doctors require only 24-48 hours. The clinic should have told you this when you made the appointment. The reason for waiting so long: The suboxone binds itself to the opiate receptors in the brain, which are def. craving after 72 hours. When you still have opiates lingering in your system, the subox is not as effective, as the receptors are already somewhat fulfilled by the opiate of choice. Taking subox too soon after quitting other opiates can cause really bad withdrawals.

Edit: If you get put on methadone instead of subox, there is usually no waiting time, or very little waiting involved. However, methadone itself is extremely addictive, and will be harder to kick than any pill you ever thought about taking.
