My brother used methadone and said he wound up getting addicting to that and had to do it cold turkey. Poor guy. He never said anything about suboxone though. Hope this helps a little.

My husband has been on Methadone for almost 3 years now. It has kept him off heroin, but he’s still addicted to the high. Methadone is supposed to be used to wean you off of heroin. I think it’s just as bad as heroin, just controlled by a doctor in a rehab clinic. The clinic he goes to has him on 160mg a day!!!! He tried suboxone prior to the methadone and it worked so much better. Suboxone has a blocker in it that stops the heroin from doing anything to them. It’s basically a waste of money for the addict to go buy the drug while on suboxone. Suboxone doesn’t give you the high that heroin or methadone does either and you are on it for a lesser period of time than methadone. The downfall is, without insurance suboxone is super expensive. It usually costs 250-400$ for the initial office visit and anywhere between 100$ and 200$ each month for return doctors’ visits. I don’t think that includes the cost of the prescription. Methadone treatment centers usually accept state funding to pay for the addicts dosing.
