Has Anyone Ever Takin Darvon?

Question by kayla: Has anyone ever takin Darvon?
I have a 65mg. If so, was it strong? And what is it related to? I have never taken it and just got prescribed to it and I don’t like taking anything without knowing details.
This is no help to me and has nothing to do with my question?

Darvon (propoxyphene) is one of the most prescribed medications in the United States.

Darvon only comes in 65 mg.

Propoxyphene is a synthetic opioid (narcotic) analgesic FDA approved to treat mild-moderate pain.

Propoxyphene is a weak opioid, it is not nearly as strong as full opioid agonists like morphine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, methadone, meperidine, or fentanyl.

It is most related to Demerol (meperidine), fentanyl, and methadone. However the other opioids are used for moderate-severe pain (methadone is also used for opioid dependency).

Darvon is a schedule IV controlled substance. Almost all other opioids are in the much higher schedule II meaning they have a greater potential for abuse, misuse, diversion, and addiction.

If you have questions talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

The most frequent side effects are:
Dizziness, Drowsy, Fainting, General Weakness, Hypotension, Malaise, Nausea, Vomiting.

Do NOT under any circumstance take more than the prescribed amount. If the medication does not control your pain call your doctor. Although propoxyphene is generally safe exceeding the prescribed dose is very dangerous. Do NOT drink alcohol or use any antihistamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, sedatives, hypnotics, or any other prescription drugs without your doctors consent.
