That is NOT good at all. I hope you read this in time. You most likely overdosed on methadone and it can be very serious. Methadone is not a drug you want to mess with unless it’s prescribed by a knowledgable doctor. Methadone has a very long half life, meaning that it stays active in your system long after the effects have worn off. Because of that it is possible to die from a methadone overdose many hours after you take it. The half life is about 24-36 hours so you won’t be on the clear until then.
There isn’t much you can do to feel better other than wait for it to wear off. What I think you should be more concerned about is not dying. This is serious. If I were you I would go to the nearest ER and tell them what you took. If you don’t want to do that you should make sure that you have someone with you for at least 24 hours who knows that you took too much methadone and can keep an eye on you in case something happens. You should also NOT go to sleep. Most people who die from methadone overdoses do so in their sleep. When you sleep your breathing is slowed down a bit. The methadone also slows down your breathing and the combination of the two can be deadly. Basically your body forgets to breathe in your sleep and you die.
If you do go to the ER they can monitor you properly and give you medication to reverse the effects of the methadone (called naloxone). Please know that the effects of the naloxone wears off after 20 minutes so because of the long half life of methadone a person with a methadone overdose will need several doses of naloxone over several hours. Unfortunately some smaller hospitals are not familiar with treating methadone overdoses so they treat it like a heroin overdose and only give one dose of naloxone. In case you end up in a hospital that doesn’t have exerience with methadone overdoses it’s good that you are educated yourself so that you can advocate for proper treatment yourself.
Please never, ever mess with methadone again. It’s not like other drugs and can kill you easily. I have been on methadone for eight years so I know quite a bit about the drug. It’s a very useful medication when used for pain or addiction but it has to be prescribed by a doctor and you should always be monitored when you first start taking methadone. It’s nothing you should mess with on your own. I really hope that you read this. The fact that you are vomiting is a sign of your body reacting to toxic levels of a substance. Please go to the ER!
