We are trying to have a baby and am on medically prescribed methadone. My Doctor tells me this is very safe, however, I’m scared, and would like to hear other womens’ stories. I am on methadone, because i was addicted to oxycotins when i was 18 and i am 25 years old now, and i have been clean for six years.. I have been going over there for six years now and i pay $ 13.75 a day for it and i have for the last past six years…
So please tell me your story or someone you know that was pregnant and taking methadone. My boyfriend and I are getting ready to get married and have a baby together. I have a seven year old son right now and we are going to try to have a healthy little baby. (hopefully a girl) 🙂

Yes, i am addicted to methadone, but it is better being on one thing then alot of illegal drugs, trust me i know.. and i go to the methadone clinic and it is addictive and methadone does not cause birth defects, i know that much from my doctor and what i read… why would i get off methadone and risk going into withdrawl.. that makes no sense..
I am on 105 miligrams and the reason i am on methadone is because i got addicted to oxycotins when i was in a car wreck when i was 17. Let me tell you something. CRACK and METHADONE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Crack can make babies retarded. I get drug tested two times a month and if i fail, i would have to drive 3 hours a day, seven days a week, because i live 1 1/2 hours from the clinic. There has never been a kid born from ONLY methadone that came out retarded. I have read books and looked at charts about it. I was just wondering if the baby had to go through detox when it was born. I know two people who was on higher doses than I am and their babies came out just fine and did not withdrawl.
I have been on methadone for six years, so i will not get back on pain pills, because you go into withdrawl from methadone you feel like crap and most people goes back to pills. So i am doing good and proud of myself and so is everyone else. and you dont know what your talking about.

I am a pain mngmt patient and have been for over a year. I was told I could not get pregnant when I was taking Methadone for pain control. So; I would definitely get a second opinion. I don’t quite understand why you are still on methadone if you are completely off the oxycotins and have been clean for 6 years; methadone is usually a temporary help to just get you clean. But; I would personally never be on heavy narcotics while pregnant b/c your child could come out addicted and have to go through natal detox. Which is just hurting your child.

6 years??? Sounds like you are addicted to methadone. I would seriously get a new doctor, especially if they put you on methadone for oxicontin addiction. That is whack. Real whack.
Anyway, methadone can cause birth defects and cause the baby to become dependent and go through withdraw syndrome from methadone.
But without being insulting you seriosuly should consider getting off methadone before having another child. 6 years is a long, long time to be on that drug.
