Do Drug Users Inject the Substance Methadone?
Question by G: Do drug users inject the substance methadone?
I regularly give to a homeless man who can be found near oxford street food, he carries a bag, and he told me he’s on methadone rehabilitation from heroin addiction, So rather than giving him money I give him food, mainly consisting of waitrose sandwiches when I see him. I think he might be using again though because when I saw him he opened his bag and there was a needle still in it’s sealed packet. So can you inject it or?
Sheltered upbringing you see. I really don’t want to be supporting a heroin addiction.

Usually, if you are part of a methadone program where you have to go to the clinic everyday to get your dose, it’s usually given orally, although if they do do it by injection, then they would give him the shot there, so he’s have no reason to be carrying a needle and syringe.
It doesn’t mean he’s using again because he’s got a needle again. Since it’s still sealed, I’d look at it as a good sign since it’s unused, but I admire your actions and ethics. Good for you helping out. We need more people like you.

No, Methadone is an oral ‘medication’ administered in a little cup similar to what comes with children’s liquid medicines. Only it’s a paper cup.
Heroin is a tough drug to kick, and Methadone is just a crutch to help people wean off the H. But it still gives them the same type of reaction and is almost as hard to withdraw from.
Giving him food certainly is not the same as giving him money, and you are to be commended for helping him as much as you can. But he may not really be trying to rehab–Methadone is frequently doled out free to the down and out by clinics drawing funds from the government. Heroin is definitely NOT free on the street.
Giving him money would be helping him support his habit. But he will keep using until he decides to get cleaned up.
