What Are the Drugs Used for Addiction Treatment?
Question by blair a: What are the drugs used for addiction treatment?
I am especially interested in those that are used to counter heroin addiction. I do know about methadone, but aside from that, what other drugs are used?

The other kinds of medications used for the treatment of heroin addiction are: naltrexone, naloxone (used in cases of overdose), and buprenorphine, among others. Buprenorphine is fairly new, but it seems to be an appealing alternative to methadone since the effect of just a single injection can last for up to 6 weeks. Keep in mind, though, that medications alone won’t be enough treatment for heroin addicts. They also need therapy, counseling, and even rehabilitation.

How Bad Will Withdrawls Be From methadone. After Being on for 10 Years?
Question by tricelife07: How bad will withdrawls be from methadone. After being on for 10 years?
Basicly due to self choice and some finacial probs, My mother is going to end her methadone this friday. She has xanexx to take along with some pain pills to help with the withdrawls. But can u tell me whats to be expected. We do know that she could do this from rehab but no insurance to cover it. And the clinc that she was in is a total ass and will not withdrawl her (which is VERY wrong). So can u tell me whats to be expected and how long it will last….. thank u

I cant imagine why they wouldnt wean her off. If worse comes to worse, there is a detox in most hospitals I believe.
