Methadone is a per scribed drug to ease some one off of another drug.

Most people who are prescribed methadone are being treated for dependence on opioid drugs such as heroin, and also prescription opioids, such as codeine. Methadone is a powerful drug and can be extremely dangerous to people who do not take it regularly, as they have no tolerance for its effects. Even a small amount may be fatal for a child.
