Can My Doctor Get in Trouble?
Question by Carlos: Can my doctor get in trouble?
If I intentionally overdose on my methadone (to kill myself), can my methadone doctor get in any trouble? I have been VERY careful not to let on to anybody (ESPECIALLY my doctor or caseworker) that I’m planning to die — obviously they would stop me. But, I don’t want him to get in any trouble if I go through with it.

Of course if you ODed on methadone they’d investigate wondering where you got it from – looking for flaws in the system or if the doctor over-prescribed. Even if the doctor isn’t fingered for any wrong-doing [they are supposed to watch you take it are they not?] you are making them responsible eg the enabler of your death which isn’t overly cool when all he’s really trying to do is help. The last thing he’d want on his conscience for the rest of his life is your death, that’s not why doctors go into practice.
If you have a concern for the guy, perhaps find some other means that they aren’t associated with.
None of my business but it’s unfortunate you have a caring in your heart for others but none for yourself… ideally that caring can grow to include you someday. That shows you’re a good person, the world need more people like that, not less. Food for thought perhaps.
