Can Corticostroid Be Used in the Treatment for Severe RLS?

Question by funsunjoy: Can Corticostroid be used in the treatment for severe RLS?
I suffer from RLS and have the painful sensations for about 18 hours each day. Oxycodone works great but I cannot sleep while taking the meds. Requip does nothing but make me sleepy and feel stupid. Can you please share what has worked with severe RLS pain. Doctors keep giving me what is advertised and I really need to makes some suggestions. I’m losing my mind with his disorder.

Corticosteroids have adverse side effects and treat inflammation.
RLS doesn’t really have to do with inflammation.
RLS can cause hypersensitivity to pain and discomfort. Making life intolerable at times.
I agree doctors tend to stick with “safe” FDA approved drugs because they are not narcotics.
Personally Requip and Mirapex failed to work long term and the side effects were horrendous.
Many people take Ultram and/or Gabapetin with positive results.
For refractory RLS low dose hydrocodone, codeine, oxycodone or methadone can be used.
I have refractory RLS and take low dose hydrocodone as it does not impair me and yet gives me some relief. For sleep I take soma which is a muscle relaxant that is actually contra indicated in RLS but it certainly helps me.
I wish you luck friend!
