I Have Been on Methadone for 5 Months and Have Not Used in Over 4 Months. I Still Feel the Same.?

Question by brienne h: I have been on methadone for 5 months and have not used in over 4 months. I still feel the same.?
I have been clean but i know if you took away my methadone i would’nt make it. Is methadone the best thing? Nothing else has worked for me in the past. I also feel like my dose is too high but they keep telling me its too low because i am tired all the time. That dosent make sense to me. With opiates when you have too much you nod out. Methadone is an opiate too, but i guess when you feel tired on meth it means you need more. The higher i go the more tired i get!! Any clues?

i think you should ask you doctor….. because maybe you are having a dosage problem… he/she is the one you can tell best about this things…. beside, methadone is a help to get you through rehab… not the only option

It sounds like your dose is too high. Fatigue is a known side effect of opiate use. Complain, *complain*, COMPLAIN! You can’t possibly hold down a job when you’re feeling this way.

You might do better with buprenorphine. This is another opiate approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate addictions. It’s side effects are less and you may be able to eventually withdraw from it. Methadone is very difficult to withdraw from.

Thanks to the War on Drugs, the FDA has made it difficult to find a doctor who can prescribe buprenorphine to former opiate addicts. Each doctor can only treat 30 people. Also, because of a strange set of rules, a clinic can only treat 30 people with buprenorphine.

This is important—work the program! If you are in NA, continue! If the 12-Steps is not your thing, look for a Rational Recovery group. I’m sure someone in your support/treatment group has had the same experiences. Keep in contact with your treatment community!
