I’ve been causally taking methadone for about a month and a half. I was just wondering if methadone can effect your period. Last month my period was late and very light and this month im about a week and half late. I’ve been thinking I was pregnant. But then I started thinking about the methdone, and how much I’ve been taking it. I took one too many about two weeks ago and it made me really sick sick. I’ve researched if it to see if missed period could be a side effect. Turns out it is, but I was hoping to get your guys opinion and see if there are any personal experiences that can be shared.

You do realize that the sole purpose of methadone is to treat heroin addicts right? I mean there is no recreational or medicinal use for it outside of treating heroin addicts. In fact, people who are not addicted to opiates and who take large enough doses can actually die from methadone. That is why it made you sick.
Never mind if it can make you sick or miss a period or make your hair fall out. Its not safe to take unless you are recovering from opiate addiction. Even then, only under close supervision of a doctor. Its very easy to overdose on methadone. And if you keep taking it casually as you say, you’ll find that it takes lower and lower doses to make you sick like that.
The main reason you don’t want to mess with methadone if you don’t need it is because methadone overdose is usually fatal. Normally when you over dose on opiates, the doctors give you a dose of epinephrine (adrenalin) but when you over dose on methadone, the EP shot doesn’t always work the same way and you can die from the overdose. Its also usually a very unpleasant way to die too – convulsions, coma, drooling. Just leave that stuff alone unless you seriously need it to treat opiate withdrawals.
