Weight Loss, Appetite Loss, Swollen Feet Ankles, and Low Protien in Blood?

Question by mandi: Weight loss, appetite loss, swollen feet ankles, and low protien in blood?
I am a 24 year old mother, I have been on 40-50mgs of methadone for about a year now and donate plasma 2 times a week. Over the past three months I have lost my huge appetite and was happy that I lost about 25 pounds….I wasn’t sure why. My feet have swollen up like balloons about 3 times in three months and I was just kicked out of the plasma center for being 5.8 blood protein, the day before yester I was fine at 6.5 but havent had any meat in 2 days. I am soooo worried I could cry right now. Any Ideas on what this could be? I heard that methadone makes it hard to absorb nutrition.

I am on methadone because I was prescribed vicoden and other pain killers over the course of 2 years and tried to quit and couldnt. Now I dont know how the hell to quit methadone….I am reallly scared, help!
Oh by the way I am not overweight I am otherwise heathy as a horse

I looked up methadone, and the swollen ankles and loss of appetite are side effects of it. See your doctor and get off the stuff ASAP.

The symptoms that you are experiencing needs a closer look as it may be a sign of kidney failure and hypoproteinemia. Check with your primary care physician so you can be examined adequately, including blood, urine and other tests. Good luck.
