How to Cure Withdrawls?

Question by Matt: how to cure withdrawls?
I have been a methadone user for about 5 years. The last two years I have been on smaller doses but in between doses I have brewed poppy seed tea. My methadone dose is only about 60-80 mgs per week. And about 200-500 grams per week of Poppies. I really don’t have a set amount it varies from week to week because I don’t go to a clinic I get it off of the people who go to the clinic which is why I get small doses. Most of the time I have my doses timed well and don’t have withdrawal symtoms. Now lately I have been wanting to save money and not do as much of either substance and now contemplating cold turkey. What are some things I can use to help ease the withdrawal symptoms? I tried some Tylenol p.m but I hear that really doesn’t work.

I’ve read that Kratom has significant opiate activity, it might be worth a try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kratom

Some of its alkaloids work on mu-opioid receptors, the same kind that methadone targets. Also, some alkaloids in Kratom lead to reduced NMDA-receptor activity, which has been shown in some studies to prevent addiction from forming (although it might not be as helpful to someone who is already addicted). Instead of adding to your regimen on top of all the other opioids, I suggest only taking two of either methadone, poppies, or kratom. Taking three things with significant mu-opioid activity might lead to an accidental overdose. Also, going cold turkey is tough, and might lead to extreme urges to resume your regimen, as well as intense opioid sickness. Please be careful, and try to reduce your dosages slowly. Hopefully you’ll be opioid free very soon. Best of luck!
