The clinic will ask you questions and you can give the answers you have given here about trying to maintain to get off. They will still help you. You DON’T have to have opiates in your system to get help.

I believe you sent me a comment on my webpage “Finding Normal” and I replied but if you have not read it let me reiterate here. It has been my experience as well as it is reccomended in the Federal Guidelines that one be positive for opiates on admission. The reason for this is because Methadone can be very dangerous to someone who is not “opiate tolerant”. Opiates will show in your system as little as 2-3 days from the time they were used. Therefore, someone who is opiate tolerant and tested negative would be in significant withdrawal and this would be easily identifiable in the persons vital signs, etc. (there is a scale they use called the COWS scale). You can’t fake your vital signs…LOL So if you go in and are negative for opiates they are going to expect to see certain things. For the most part clinics want to prevent people from coming in off the street and making up a story to get methadone to either get high on or sell which could result in death. Make sense? As a heroin user I really feel methadone will be a life saver for you as long as you stick with the program and give it time to work. My clinic does give you 2 weeks of free U/A’s because they said they realize it takes some time to work and realize you may use during that time to help prevent withdrawal but not all clinics do that. Anyways, let me know what happens.
