Why Would Methadone Clinic Give an Addict Methadone Outpatient?

Question by Sissy: Why would Methadone clinic give an addict methadone outpatient?
My brother was addicted to prescription pain meds and alcohol. He was given methadone out patient and died! I just cannot understand why a dangerous drug would be given with no medical supervision. It seems so irresponsible to me. I am so angry and sad about this.

Opiate based drugs, such as pain killers, and heroine actually change the the chemical make up in the brain. Your Brain begins to need a dose on a regular basis or some addicts could actually die with out it. So doctors give out methadone so people that are trying to geto fight their addiction can do so with out getting sick or in some cases die…

I’m sorry to hear about your brother…I am also a recovering drug addict, and I was actually addicted to Methadone…..and your feelings are justified.I live in NY,and here there is a Methadone clinic, but it is run under close supervision, the people basically stand in a line and then a nurse will give the patient their recommended daily dose of Methadone. They get NO script for it,they must come on a daily basis to get their Methadone, which IS a good idea to supervise the patient. My doctor has put me on a medication called ‘SUBOXONE’ which works for me.Although many people are against it…but again I am really sorry about your brother.I’m also curious to know if he actually died from an overdose of the Methadone?I’m guessing that he was NOT monitored while on his Methadone…I really think they must get closer supervision to their patients….again dear….soooooo sorry and may GOD rest his soul…..GOD bless!!!
