Methadone Overdose: Calgary Dad Sentenced For Toddler’s Methadone Death

A Calgary father will spend two years in prison for his role in his daughter’s death. On Tuesday, Jonathan Hope received his sentence for failing to provide the necessities of life to his 16-month-old daughter Summer. Summer died in August 2006 after drinking her father’s methadone. Neither Hope nor, the girl’s mother, Lisa Guerin attempted to get any medical help for their dying daughter until the next morning. Before being sentenced, Hope told the court “I wish I could go back and change everything…I miss my daughter…I know I will never get over it.” Members of Hope’s family were in court for the sentencing. They feel the punishment handed down is fair. “There’s nothing you can argue with,” says Corrine Vooys, a cousin of Hope’s. “It’s really hard to hear that, the remarks made by Jonathan were very direct, maybe a little hard to hear but they are true.”
