I am 16 and on a total of 15 mg of methadone daily taken along with other opiates and muscle relaxants. Now i want you all to know that I’m not a heroin addict i’ve been prescribed methadone for pain relief due to a skeletal muscular condition i suffer from. I’m having a hard time with my friends and teachers, they don’t seem to understand what I’m going through ( all the side effects, mood swings ect… ), along with the stares and confrontations i have to deal with just because I’m taking painkillers of such magnitude. I just don’t know what to do anymore i’ve lost several “close” friends cause of this and i was wondering if i could just get some advice.

Hmmm …16 and on methadone, etc – I would change my doctor NOW. This is not right.
Go and get a second opinion and ask for a referral to a Neurosurgeon and Neurologist. After assessment and discussion a treatment plan will be arranged for you. Your parents will be involved and your new local doctor will be able to discuss your on going management with your parents and you.
Should it be necessary it is your parents role to discuss any medical conditions with your school principal, etc.
As for your friends, you will have to understand that they are not able to cope with your changed personality and that is very understandable at their ages.
