I had a friend who switched from methadone to suboxone. She simply wanted to get off the methadone. However, she’s also a chronic pain patient. She told me that her doctor ordered her to be free from methadone for 72 hours before she took her first dose of suboxone. She tried the suboxone for one month, and switched back to methadone. She said the suboxone was good for helping detox from methadone, but it didn’t relieve her pain like methadone.
If your friend wants to try the suboxone, she should do so with medical instruction and supervision.
Qutting Oxycodone Using Methadone?
Question by riaaisgay: Qutting Oxycodone using methadone?
My girlfriend is an oxycodone addict, she recently started going to a methadone clinic to get off of it. Her only reason was that oxy was too expensive (i.e. I don’t think she is serious about quitting, she just want a constant high). Does anyone know the length of treatment with methadone and how successful it is – i cant see her anymore if she will just be hooked on methadone for the rest of her life.
She admitted treatment can go on forever (“I said, that doesn’t sound successful” she said “well it depends on your definition of success”) – I will ask her this week if she intends to quit for good. She’s a very special girl who hasn’t done any of the bad things associated with junkies (she is lazy, so some things can be chalked up to that) but her usage of methadone makes me fell a bad way, I almost rather she used oxy again.
Well: the first day they start her on a standard dose, which got her very high, they then raised her dose to the equivalent of what she was doing in OC. She said her freind has been on for 1 year and is starting to taper down. She actually does seem genuine in wanting to quit. she beleives this is the best way, she also was shooting up roxi (so I mean, shes really a junkie). I have lost all feelings for her, and respect, I feel bad, but she and I are now broken up, she wasn’t even upset, so it was very easy for me (I cried a lot when I left).
