In Spite of History

In spite of history
I first knowingly met a heroin user in 8th grade health class. Invited to talk about his addiction, the man described how his life was essentially run by his scheduled doses of methadone at a local clinic. I can still picture his gaunt face, wiry body, and cowboy boots.

Methadone, Back Pain, Pregnancy?

Question by bullymommy25: Methadone, back pain, pregnancy?
I asked a question bout my sister, and would up getting a lot of responses from people who work with heroin addicts. So, please read everything first. My sister got sciatica with her first child, so bad that she gets “stuck” when she lies flat on her back and every way she moves causes really horrible nerve spasms. She wound up on methadone (doc was eventually investigated by govt for prescription fraud!) and desperately wanted off, but found out the hard way that she can’t just stop. So she began to detox from 60 mgs, then got accidentally pregnant at 35 mgs. Decided rather than just abort to continue, with an OB-GYN’s approval, to continue detox (2mgs per week). So far, so good, down to 16 mgs. But she’s nervous if her baby will have any harm from this, most docs say things should be okay, but it’s a drug! Also, her sciatica is getting bad again, and she gets “stuck” now in positions that used to be okay. Has anyone detoxed and had baby? How can back be helped w/o narcotics?

Questions About Methadone for Oxycontin Addiction?

Question by bellagirl1414: Questions about Methadone for Oxycontin Addiction?
A relative was taking Oxycontin for about a year (arount 160 mgs a day). He started a methadone program last week and is taking 25 mg a day. How long before the OC is out of his system? And how long should he take the Methadone before it’s safe to detox from it? He was told it should be a short term treatment and is planning to only take it for a couple months. Any info on this, including the withfrawal from Methadone would be helpful!

Im Starting Suboxone Tomorrow for Methadone Withdrawal Need Help?

Question by Lucky: Im starting Suboxone tomorrow for Methadone withdrawal need help?
I took about 100mg friday pm and will it be ok to start Suboxone Monday pm? The therapist knows about other things i took during the week to help with the sickness.

Best answer:

Answer by RXGirl
The opioid antagonist in Suboxone will only affect withdrawal if you were to try to inject the Suboxone, not when taken orally. So it shouldn’t precipitate symptoms of withdrawal when taken with methadone.

Just as a precaution I would contact your therapist and make sure he knows you took the methadone on Friday night, and make sure he wants you to start the Suboxone tomorrow.

Answer by Lone
you need to be in at least moderate withdrawal or suboxone will cause precipitated withdrawals, which are really bad.
