Heroin Use, Deaths Getting Attention of Pierce, Thurston Officials

Heroin use, deaths getting attention of Pierce, Thurston officials
TACOMA, Wash. Raymond Power remembers the first time he tried heroin. "One time with that," said Power, "And you're hooked basically." Power started using heroin because he could no longer afford prescription drugs like Oxycontin. Heroin was cheaper and easier to find. Those are the reasons blamed for a sharp increase in heroin use and heroin-related deaths across Washington. Those trends have …

Methadone is not a treatment for cancer. It is an addictive drug substitute for people addicted to heroine because it is easier to wean off methadone than heroine.

Methadone is sometimes used as a pain medication for cancer patients but to answer your question Methadone is an inexpensive medication compared to other schedule II narcotics but when used in addiction treatment it can be very costly. Clinics can charge anywhere from $ 80-$ 110/week in the US. As a life saving medication I can say that is fairly inexpensive for the quality of life it provides many who take it. Regarding the article you are referring to I am heartbroken to hear of any story which involves the poisoning of a child. However, the surge of news articles with stories where parents are being thrown in jail only when a child is poisoned by Methadone is vastly misleading. There are 1 million poisoning deaths per year in the US and one third are children. Top 10 Categories of Substances Involved in Poisonings in Children <6 Years Old are as follows... 1) Personal Care Products (perfumes, mouthwashes, etc.) 2) Cleaning Substances - Household 3) Cough/Cold Products and Antihistamines 4) Pain Relievers (Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) 5) Plants and Mushrooms 6) Foreign Bodies 7) Topical Ointments and Creams 8) Insecticides and Rat Poisons 9) Antimicrobials (antibiotics, etc) 10) Hydrocarbons (gasoline, kerosene, etc.) Yet, if a child swallows Listerine it is seen as a tragic accident and the parents are consoled. If the substance is Tylenol child proofing techniques are evaluated and the company may make the paper but if the substance is methadone then Katie-Bar-The-Door cause someone is going to jail and the parents are evil, careless junkies.

Do You Understand Addiction?

Question by Jenna: Do you understand addiction?
Maybe someone can help me understand why in my entire life I’ve never had a problem with alcohol, sex, porn. I’ve tried pot, coke, crank, crack in my late teens and twenties and never cared for any of it. Didn’t need it.
Now I’m 38 y.o and on pain meds for an injury that has just about crippled me. I feel, in fact, I KNOW I’m addicted to the meds. Taking the prescribed amounts is never enough and I’m unhappy without the opiates.
Do you think I can beat this? I really can’t stand the feeling of NEEDING something like this to get by. Oh, and I can barely walk without the meds. What do I do?

Well, you could just try the cold turkey approach.Just take them in the normal amount.Or,if its that serious, you may want to consider rehab.
