Methadone Has Been Part of Him for Too Long Am I Wrong to Walk Away?

Question by Pricilla: Methadone has been part of him for too long am I wrong to walk away?
My boyfriend has been an opiate user since he was 14 he’s now 28. I have been by his side for 7 years now. Four years ago he decided to go to the methadone clinic to recover he’s been going since and doing well. But methadone changed him he lays around all day sleeps the whole day ( when he’s not at work and he works full time) I used to just put it off as he’s tired from work for a long time but realized when he’s off for a few days he sleeps all day long. That’s all he wants to do! Also his personality is different it’s almost like he has no interests anymore other than sleep. We have sex very little like once a month. The other thing is if I want to talk to him about his situation He tells me it’s not my business that he’s the one dealing with it, but I need to know because with him on it I feel distant from him. I understand his struggles trust me I did my research what he doesn’t understand I’m struggling too!

Answer by Maria Aurora D
Methadone is a very effective opiod analgesic without the addicting effects that other substances such as morphine may bring.

If taken on large doses for long periods, it can lead to longer withdrawal periods.

If Someone Is Using Methadone, Can They Get High of Other Drugs?

Question by Allyson: If someone is using methadone, can they get high of other drugs?
My uncle is an outpatient in methadone treatment. But acting very hyper and running around a lot. Is this normal? Or could he also using something else?

Best answer:

Answer by nurse
Methadone doesn’t make you hyper. It could simply be that he’s not always ‘low’ from heroin use any more, and seems hyper because of it. Generally, people who like ‘downer’ drugs don’t switch to uppers like that, but I don’t know your uncle, so anything is possible.
