Can I Overdose From 10 More Milligrams of My Methadone Dose?

Question by Rosalie: Can I overdose from 10 more milligrams of my Methadone dose?
I’m on 27mgz of Methadone right now. The highest I was was 35mgz at one time (this time around, the 1st time I was at 85mgz for my highest dose). I’m trying to taper myself off but I’ve been having a real hard time sleeping as of late. I know it’s not because of my decreasing in dose but because I lost my father this past Easter Sunday. Since then I haven’t been able to sleep anymore then an hour all together a night and that’s a broken hour. 5minz here, 7minz there ect. I’m having a very difficult time dealing with his loss. It was completely unexpected. He was only 44 years old and totally healthy. He just died in his sleep for God only knows what reason. I’m 28 years old. This man wasn’t my biological father and we only just started having this relationship when I was 22. He was my mothers ex husband. He was with me til I was 3 years old and they divorced. Even after the separated my father and mother still have a very close relationship. Best friends. The spoke every single day and every phone call the first thing he asked was how I was. I always was the love of his life so I went looking for him when I was 21 because the only father figure I ever had was my grandfather who raped me at age 6 and died from cancer when I was 11. So I only had my father for 7 years. I still needed him. I shouldn’t be burying my 44 year old father at 28. Anyways, I’m completely off track, I’m on 27mgz and I’m just so sick and tired of being sick and tired and I need some sleep. So I took a little sip of my take home bottle I got today to make me be able to sleep. Doing that I obviously don’t know exactly how much I consumed but it was a very small eye dropper amount. So I wouldn’t expect it to be anymore them maybe 5mgz but I’m say thing 10 just to be safe. So I’m wondering if I would over dose from taking more. Since my highest dose this time around was 35 and sat time was 85. I’m on a maintenance program not because of heroin or anything like that but because a while back I had severely hurt myself and was put on pain killers (Percocet) for a long time, about a year. When I didn’t need it anymore the withdrawal symptoms where way more then I could hande so my doctor suggested me to go this route. I was on it the first time for about three years because no one told me coming off Methadone is way worse and way more violent then pain pills or heroin put together. I was covered by my insurance back in Boston but then I moved to Boise because my husband was stationed here from the Air Force. Out here I had to pay outta pocket and after a while it was becoming to expensive. I was at 50mgz then had to stop cold turkey because I couldn’t pay anymore. Well, I almost died from that. Literally. I was so sick for a week I literally didn’t get outta bed and maybe was awake for 2 hours a day. I couldn’t keep even water down and was vomiting every 15mins. When I finally went to the hospital the doctors said I was a walking miracle. They said that I should have been dead because f how low my potassium level was. Normal healthy potassium levels s no lower then 2.8. After you get as low as 2.4 you have to be admitted. My level was 1.2. I should’ve been dead or at least in anaphylactic shock. I got over it all after being in the ICU for two weeks and was off the Methadone for a year. Then I got pregnant and my son broke 3 of my ribs from kicking me, he was a big boy. So I was put back on pain medication for the last 3 months f my pregnancy and then after because of my C-section. Again I couldn’t handle the withdrawal symptoms so I went back on Methadone but stayed at a much lower dose to make it easier to get off. I have enough money now to cover the expenses so I don’t need to worry about a repeat brink of death experience. So back to my question, sorry for getting off track so much but I felt the need to explain so I don’t sound like some drug addict. So I took a bit more so I could sleep today and I just want to know if I have anything to worry about. Thank you for taking the time to read everything I wrote. If you did actually read this all thank you so much. I know it was a lot but I needed to explain because I am not a drug addict, never was and don’t want anyone thinking otherwise. I appreciate you time and answers. Please no mean answers. I can’t handle much more negative effects in my life right now. I am just barely hanging I from everything I’m going through and no sleep on top. Thank you again. God bless and have a wonderful holiday weekend.
