According to this article, scientists are in the works to be able to tell things about a person by fingerprints. I’m sure they meant latents. Either way. They state that the proteins that are left can tell them information about that persons drug use (THC, cocaine, nicotine, methadone and opioid drugs), medical conditions (including heart conditions, cancer, diabetes) and if they have fired a gun or touched explosives. Of course, this would be in addition to the usual information that would be on file in AFIS.
Granted, this technology is a long while away.

Would this be a violation of HIPPA laws? Is it a violation of a persons right to privacy? How would it stand in court?

What is your take on this?
I’m familiar with the HIPPA laws, but what I’m wondering about, in regards to that, is having a nonmedical person have access to it, just because it was inadvertantly left at a crime scene. I’m not sure if I’m wording that correctly.
