Correction – alcohol causes more deaths than any other drug combined.

The problem with answering your question is that I do not know your friend’s case personally. Its really something that only a doctor should be able to tell him and I would not follow the advice of anyone else except for what his prescription tells him. Depending on how much of the oxy your friend used to use will determine how much methadone he should take. If your friend was a heavy user then odds are taking the second pill (only as needed) will not cause him any harm. But again he really should only be following the dosage prescribed to him.

Also if you are with your friend and he takes a second pill, make sure you watch for any symptoms of over dose which can include confussion, loss of consciousness, black outs, fainting, tremors, sweating and a strong decrease in breathing.

Methadone is a very dangerous drug. He can in fact overdose on that extra pill. There are many documented cases of people who overdose and die just from the one pill a day. My question is where would he be getting the extra pill unless he is obtaining it illegally because most of the time they only give one pill a day. I’m hoping that you are a friend enough to tell his Dr that he is planning on using more than one pill a day. Often addicts of any drug will use the Methadone (which gives the same affects of the other drug when miss-used and overtaken) as a replacement for the Oxy, not as a way to rehab. Your friend is in trouble and if you really care you’ll step in. Google more on Methadone and you’ll find many rehab patients who have died and many who admit that they have ended up in worse shape because of the Methadone and needed stricter environments to rehab.
