Hands tied with son on Heroin?

I am sorry that your son chose this route in life. The fact is unless he wants to get better, he never will. And even if he wants to, it is at best a 50/50 thing with heroin. Good luck to him and you.

It has to be his choice. That is the harsh reality. I think if you were to join a group for family and friends of narcotic users. Call Narcotics Anonymous find out where you can go to a support group to deal with being shut out.
Talking to others with the same situation will give you some support and some inside information on who can help, what choices there are.
There may be an option for you and if there is someone to help. This is the place to go.
If you cant get him out of his situation, you need to deal with your emotions as best as possible.
Im a mum and it breaks my heart there is not more support for us to have the ability to sign in our kids if they need it.

He needs help. I’m sorry that you can’t find any. Phone every addiction helpline in the country until you start to get somewhere. Your son of course needs to want to get clean. His commitment in this area might help. Helping agencies might be more willing to help if the initiative is coming from him. You probably know this already but the best way that you can help is to refuse to make it easy in any way for him to continue his habit. Try not to give in to blackmail. Even if you have to intervene to stop him from becoming homeless and living on the streets find tough solutions not easy ones. There may also be support groups for parents like you to get together to discuss how to handle this difficult situation. Find one of these. Again, I am sorry to hear that you are having to deal with one of life’s most difficult problems.

Heroin is a terrible drug. Your son is out of control now though and is most likely unable to make decision on his behalf.

Contact the social worker at the hospital in charge of his case. She or He will know the options that you have available. It is not often that addicts have insurance, so other resources are often used.

Get yourself in the position to assist in his medical decisions if he will allow you. Suggest what you can. Work with hospital administration.

I am sorry that it is true that heroin addicts are difficult to cure. They are addicts for life. Let me share a true story. Several years ago I befriended an ex heroin addict. He had been clean about 5 years or so when I met him. He described a life of getting high, criminal behaviour to support his habits, and a steady fall from grace. I caught him reformed. A member of NA (narcotics anonymous). He was dying of AIDS at that time too. (from needle use). He said that the hardest thing he ever did was give up his drugs. And that there wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t crave it.

I believe firmly that heroin is difficult to leave.It is like his family, his lover, and his life. You have to show that there is something greater in his life for him to win. And he has to see that there is a great purpose to his life too.

I am not a religious nut, but you need to call to your higher resources to save your son. Good luck and have faith. Take your son to the places that can show him a better life. Give him the resources to find the cure in himself.

You can’t fix him. But you can lead him to the path with love!

First you must understand this isn’t his fault. No one wants to be an addict but some people are born with the predisposition to be so and this is now known and accepted scientific fact.

Stopping Heroine is not a question of weeks or months but rather years. He can not be in an environment where it is easily obtained and it must be replaced with something else, something of greater value such as love, desire for sex, or simply a better life but it takes a long time before he will be able to understand there are better ways to not feel pain than heroine.

I feel for you and him but you can do this if you put all your efforts into helping him…he need s love, not reproach.
